Pre-Requisite
- This Guide is only for Huawei Mate 10 pro users.
- Make sure you have enough battery to run the upgrade process. It is recommended that the power of the battery is more than 30%.
- Upgrade operations may erase all your user data. So if there is some important information,you should backup them before upgrade.
- Before flashing, you should unzip the SDupdate_Package.tar.gzfile, and get out UPDATE.APP to do upgrade operation in your SD Card. To unzip, we may sometime share two zip file, Update.zip package is always comes with the main update.app which is a complete OS. Where has data file comes with data files from Huawei. Check the below file list.
- —> dload├ –> Mate 10 pro_hw_eu│ –> update_data_hw_ eu.app├–> UPDATE.APP
- There are two methods to upgrade your phone. One is Normal upgrade and Force Upgrade

How To Flash/Install
Normal Upgrade
- First of all, Download the Update Package
- Now Unzip the Update.zip package and
- Copy the entire dload folder (with UPDATE.APP in it) to the root directory of the internal storage.
- Now on your phone, Open the dialer and enter: *#*#2846579#*#* ->ProjectMenu->Software Upgrade->local Upgrade->OK，You can also open settings and system update then local update.
- Now select the Update.app that you moved to internal storage.
- You will see a screen which shows the installation process.
- Wait untill the installation process completes.
- When the progress bar stop, the phone will restart automatically
- In case if you have the Data File and you want to flash it, then first of all delete the earlier moved update.app from the dload folder
- Then you can extract the second file (update_data_Xxxxx) and move the new update.app to the dload folder.
- Repeat the same 4-8 Steps above.
- That’s it ! You have Installed Stock Firmware on Huawei Smartphone.
Force Upgrade
- First of all, Download the Update Package
- Now Unzip the Update.zip package and
- Copy the entire dload folder (with UPDATE.APP in it) to the root directory of the internal storage.
- After Copying the Update.app, Turn off your phone.
- Make sure your handset is power off.
- Now Press the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN key, and then press the POWER key to power on the phone and enter the Software Upgrade Mode.
- When the progress bar stop, the phone will restart automatically.
- To Update the Data File, You can follow the Normal Upgrade.
That’s it !! I hope you have flashed the new firmware successfully.

There’s no SD card on Mate 10 pro
We know there is no SD slot in Mate 10 Pro. Its a general guide and you can use internal storage for upgrading/flashing process
Do ı need to root first?
No unless it fails, then you will need TWRP
But it says “Warning No SDCard!” And I cannot tell my phone where the files are. I tried a folder named “dload” in the internal storage but it does not work either
have you placed the unzipped update.app in dload and tried all the methods above? All these methods are official given by Huawei itself and working according to Huawei.
Tanks for your reply. This is exactly what I did. It still says “warning No SDCard”. And the method with both volume buttons ends up in an error message “update failed” .
Next thing I tried was flashing the update.zip with twrp, but this also produces an error and fails.
HUAWEI Mate 10 pro, BLA-L29
Have you tried different firmwares or a single one again and again because they can be damaged and you need another one? As you have unlocked bootloader,have you tried HWOTA tool method?
I finally managed to flash back to stock. Even the bootloader is locked again. Everything fine and back to normal.
The HWOTA-Tool I used before was somehow a wrong version, I think.

Now I am one step further. The HWOA Tool didn’t find the zips, because they were expected in a folder called “BLA”. So I renamed the folder “LON” to BLA. Afterwards, it seemed to work, but TWRP threw an error:
check_write_data_to_partition,write data error
ERROR: 9
Does it mean that the data partition is kind of write protected?
What should I do next?
AARGH. I think I´m going back to SAMSUNG Phones or downgrade to Apple 😉

Thank you. I really appreciate you trying to help me out. I tried another update.zip, although this might not be the problem, because my phone does not even recognize the dload folder at all. It wants to use the sd-card, but as we know, there is none on the m10p.
I will now try to understand the HWOTA tool method. Still a little unsure how to rename the files.
