Portal5 is gebaseerd op het Mobile Universal Gateway platform. Het MUG platform is hardware, apparatuur, protocol, systeem en technologie onafhankelijk. Het MUG platform ondersteunt en combineert technologieën zoals GPS, Rfid, Wifi, Zigbee, NFC, Bluetooth, Mobiele data, Simkaart, IoT en overige (toekomstige) technologieën om zowel een binnen- als buitenlocatie van een persoon, object of voertuig te bepalen.
