Diese kostenlose Android-App ermöglicht den bequemen Zugriff per Smartphone oder Tablet auf den Online-Katalog (OPAC) und die Mitgliedskonten der Regionalbibliothek Weiden OPf.
inkl. Kostenkontrolle.

MOTIVATION

Als “fleißige” Ausleih-Nutzer der Regionalbibliothek Weiden fanden wir es immer sehr mühselig, fast täglich die OPAC-Webseite aufzurufen, jeweils die Nutzerdaten einzugeben und nach mehreren Klicks zu kontrollieren, welche Medien wir wieder zurückgeben müssen, um keine Säumnisgebühren zahlen zu müssen.
Gerade Familien mit mehreren Konten werden mir hier sicherlich zustimmen.

Der Wunsch nach einer App, die diese lästige Routinearbeit abnimmt, wurde immer stärker. Auf Grundlage einer Open Source Lösung und viel Aufwand für Anpassungen wurde der Wunsch zur Wirklichkeit.
Um die Regionalbibliothek zu unterstützen, haben wir uns mit Rücksprache entschlossen, die Bib App für alle Nutzer zugänglich zu machen und hier im Play Store kostenlos anzubieten.

Funktionen der App:
– Separate Anzeige der ausgeliehenen, abholbereiten und vorbestellten Medien
– Verwaltung mehrerer Accounts möglich
– Verlängerung von ausgeliehenen Medien
– Vorbestellen von Medien (inkl. Auswahl Vormerkbox/Infotheke)
– Benachrichtigung bei Medien, die abgegeben werden müssen (keine Garantie)
– Verbesserte Darstellung der Medientitel
– Suche im Online-Katalog der Regionalbibliothek
– Merkliste für Medien
– Sind Kontodaten älter als 24h, wird automatisch online aktualisiert (wenn App gestartet/aufgerufen wird)
– Anzeige von Informationen der Regionalbibliothek (z.B. Öffnungszeiten)
– Anzeige der ausstehenden Gebühren (keine Garantie)
– Zahl beim App-Symbol (im Launcher) zeigt die Anzahl der gelb und rot markierten Medien sowohl zurückzugebende als auch abholbereite Medien (Badge). Hinweis: Die meisten Android-Launcher unterstützen diese Funktion.
– Im Konto-Bereich abholbereite Medien: Markierung “gelb”, wenn das Medium nur noch heute und morgen abzuholen ist; Markierung “rot”, wenn nur noch heute das Medium abholbereit ist.
– Zusätzliche Funktion für Auflistung der Medien eines Kontos:
zusätzlicher Button “Alternativ aus Cache”, wenn ein Verbindungsfehler zum Bib-Server auftrat; weiterhin Anzeige seiner Medien möglich, auch wenn mehr als ein Tag nach Aktualisierung vergangen ist
– Ab Version 1.8.0 kann man Widgets (!!!) auf den Home-Screen hinzufügen
(Anzahl in “Ampel” rechts neben Symbol im Widget: rot: heute abgeben; orange: bald abgeben; grün: Anzahl aller restlichen Ausleihen; Anzahl in Kreis links neben Symbol: abzuholende Medien)

Datenübertragung:
Sämtliche Kommunikation findet direkt per Internet zwischen Ihrem Smartphone und dem Regionalbibliotheksserver statt. Die Kommunikation mit dem Server wird verschlüsselt via HTTPS übertragen.

Ihre Ausweisnummer und Ihr Passwort der Bibliothek werden nur auf Ihrem Gerät (in der App) gespeichert. Eine anonyme Nutzung der App (also ohne Ausweisnummer und Passwort) ist möglich, hat aber Funktionseinschränkungen zur Folge.

Q: Widget: Text unterhalb des App-Symbols ändert sich nicht automatisch jede Stunde (= wann zuletzt aktualisiert wurde). Warum?
A: Problem mit Kommunikation zwischen Widget und App. Lösung: Widget löschen und neu hinzufügen.

MOTIVATION

As “hard-working” lending users of the Weiden regional library, we always found it very difficult to access the OPAC website almost every day, enter the user data and, after several clicks, check which media we have to return in order not to have to pay late fees.
Families with multiple accounts in particular will certainly agree with me on this.

The desire for an app that relieves this annoying routine work grew stronger and stronger. Based on an open source solution and a lot of effort for adjustments, the wish became a reality.
In order to support the regional library, we decided after consultation to make the Bib App accessible to all users and to offer it here in the Play Store for free.

Features of the app:
– Separate display of borrowed, ready-to-collect and pre-ordered media
– Management of several accounts possible
– Extension of borrowed media
– Pre-ordering media (including selection of reservation box / information desk)
– Notification of media that have to be handed in (no guarantee)
– Improved display of the media titles
– Search in the regional library’s online catalog
– Watchlist for media
– If account data is older than 24 hours, it is automatically updated online (when the app is started / called)
– Display of information from the regional library (e.g. opening times)
– Display of outstanding fees (no guarantee)
– The number next to the app symbol (in the launcher) shows the number of media marked yellow and red, both media to be returned and media that are ready for collection (badge). Note: Most Android launchers support this feature.
– Media ready for collection in the account area: Marking “yellow” if the medium can only be collected today and tomorrow; Marking “red” if the medium is only ready for collection today.
– Additional function for listing the media of an account:
additional button “alternative from cache” if a connection error to the bib server occurred; its media can still be displayed, even if more than one day has passed after the update
– From version 1.8.0 you can add widgets (!!!) to the home screen
(Number in “traffic light” to the right of the symbol in the widget: red: hand in today; orange: hand in soon; green: number of all remaining loans; number in circle to the left of the symbol: media to be picked up)

Data transfer:
All communication takes place directly via the Internet between your smartphone and the regional library server. Communication with the server is encrypted and transmitted via HTTPS.

Your ID number and your library password are only saved on your device (in the app). Anonymous use of the app (i.e. without an ID number and password) is possible, but this results in functional restrictions.

Q: Widget: Text below the app symbol does not change automatically every hour (= when it was last updated). Why?
A: Problem with communication between widget and app. Solution: Delete widget and add a new one.
