المماليك هم سلالة من الجنود حكمت مصر والشام والعراق وأجزاء من الجزيرة العربية أكثر من قرنين ونصف القرن وبالتحديد من 1250 إلى 1517 م.تعود أصولهم إلى آسيا الوسطى.
تهيأت عوامل كثيرة أسهمت إسهاماً في تأسيس دولة المماليك، هذه الدولة التي خرجت من رحم الدولة الأيوبية.
كما وتمتع المماليك خلال دولتهم بشرعية دينية في العالم الإسلامي وهذا لسبيبن، تمكلهم لأراضي الحجاز والحرمين، ثم استضافتهم للخلفاء العباسيين في القاهرة منذ 1260م.
